About us

Protecting Immigrant Families – Illinois (PIF-IL) is a statewide coalition of advocates, service providers, and community organizations working to defend access to basic essential needs programs for all.

The Protecting Immigrant Families-Illinois (PIF-IL) coalition was created in the Spring of 2018 specifically to resist the harmful changes to the public charge for Inadmissibility rule. Four organizations founded the coalition: the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR), The Latino Policy Forum, Legal Council for Health Justice, and the Shriver Center on Poverty Law. The coalition is modeled after the national Protecting Immigrant Families campaign, which was convened by CLASP and the National Immigrant Law Center (NILC). PIF-IL founding members believed that a statewide coalition of diverse members could create synergies and help fuel the power in immigrant communities to resist and make informed choices about the public charge rule changes. Since the Spring of 2018, PIF-IL has grown to 18 steering committee members and a list serv with individuals representing over 150 different organizations. Join us!
